Set on the banks of the River Thames in the literary world, P.D. James's Original Sin is the ninth Adam Dalgliesh mystery and a brilliant work of crime fiction from the bestselling author of Death Comes to Pemberley.
An Adam Dalgliesh Mystery
The Peverell Press, a two-hundred-year-old publishing firm housed in a dramatic mock-Venetian palace on the Thames, is certainly ripe for change. But the proposals of its ruthlessly ambitious new managing director, Gerard Etienne, have made him dangerous enemies - a discarded mistress, a neglected and humiliated author, and rebellious colleagues and staff. When Gerard's body is discovered bizarrely desecrated, there is no shortage of suspects and Dalgliesh and his team are confronted with a puzzle of extraordinary complexity and a murderer who is prepared to strike again.
Review
Classic P. D. James: rich, delicious and satisfying. ― Evening Standard
An elegantly written, splendidly atmospheric and immensely satisfying mystery. ― Sunday Telegraph
Outstanding . . . A book to escape into, delighting in the sense that you are in safe hands, no matter how unsafe the subject. ― Observer
A complex, compelling novel . . . Wide, deep, magisterial, like the Thames that so atmospherically fills its pages . . . James, a novelist of broad gifts and great skill, here is writing in full mastery of her craft . . . the grande dame of fictional forensic pathology. ― New York Times
Each of the complex, finely drawn characters has an excellent motive for murder, and as death extends its tentacles through the marble building, no one connected with the Peverell press seems remotely safe or innocent. ― The Times
Puts the work of most of her rivals to shame. ― Sunday Times
