About the Author
Edgar Allan Poe was born in 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts, but was educated in the United Kingdom. He is regarded as one of America's finest literary figures. Best known for his poetry, such as "The Raven" and his short stories, Poe is also considered to be the trailblazer of the detective fiction genre, after writing The Murders in the Rue Morgue. His literary legacy is huge and he influenced numerous writers, such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and H. G. Wells.
Born in Dublin in 1889, Harry Patrick Clarke was a stained glass artist as well as a book illustrator. During his career, he produced drawings to accompany the works of well-known storywriters such as Edgar Allan Poe, Hans Christian Anderson and Charles Perrault.
