If there’s room in the world for all the birds in the sky and whales in the ocean, why do humans always fight for space? This young child’s reflections carry a profound message of peace and tolerance.
A child grows and discovers the world. As he lies awake at night, he sees there’s enough room in the sky for all the stars and the moon. When he visits the ocean, he sees there is enough room for all the fish, even for the whales. As he grows up, he doesn’t understand why people fight for space. Surely, if we are kinder to one another, there will always be room for everyone?
This is a beautiful and profound picture book ― a testament of our time and a touching allegory for war and the refugee crisis.
Review
This lesson in sharing is wittily and originally rendered by the Iranian artist Anahita Teymorian, with a lovely sense of pattern, in rich red, brown and turquoise. It looks a treat and promotes love. --Nicolette Jones - The Sunday Times
Iranian author Anahita Teymorian appeals for peace in There s Room for Everyone, the first book in a new Hope in a Scary World series from independent children s picture book publisher Tiny Owl. Her narrator recalls comprehending as a child that there was enough room for the stars in the sky and books in the library, but human beings are constantly fighting over space. Teymorian plays beautifully with the physical boundaries of the page, her impossibly lanky-limbed characters stooping beneath the paper s edges to illustrate, for example, that their house is getting too small. She had the idea for the tale while shouting at the TV news, but the tone isn t angry it s wise and warm. --Imogen Carter - The Guardian
