Salman Rushdie
Salman Rushdie (1947) sa narodil v Bombaji. Vyštudoval King’s College v Anglicku. Spočiatku pracoval ako copywriter a neskôr sa začal venovať výlučne písaniu. Je autorom niekoľkých románov, zbierky poviedok, štyroch kníh esejí a memoárovej prózy. Medzi jeho najznámejšie diela patria Grimus (1975), Deti polnoci (Midnight’s Children, 1981, SLOVART 2010), Satanské verše (Satanic Verses, 1988), Hanba (Shame, 1983), Maurov posledný vzdych (The Moor’s Last Sight, 1995) a i. Je nositeľom viacerých významných literárnych ocenení, za román Deti polnoci dostal v r. 2008 cenu Booker of Bookers (cenu za najlepšiu knihu ocenenú Bookerovou cenou); je členom niekoľkých významných umeleckých združení a v r. 2007 bol povýšený do šľachtického stavu.
