Werner Bischof (1916-1954): intellectual, artist and grand master of photojournalism. The powerful dramatic impact of his images enabled him to become one of the first members of the famous Magnum Photos agency in 1949, and to work for prestigious magazines and newspapers like Life, Paris Match, Observer and Epoca. He insightfully turned his gaze and camera on what was left of Europe and Japan at the end of World War II and tellingly rendered the diversity of the Orient, but his career came to a sudden end when, at thirty-eight, he died in a tragic car accident in the Andes.
