Karl Lagerfeld: Waterdance/Bodywave
This is a set of two hardcover books presented together in a black folio, printed in white with the titles of the books ("Bodywave" at the top, "Waterdance" at the bottom) along with the Artist's name vertically in the center. There are 80 pages with 85 duotone illustrations. It measures 16 x 12 inches. Like Joel Meyerowitz, in his "The Elements" series, Karl Lagerfeld sees a confluence between water, air, and the human body. In Lagerfeld's images, these things emerge from each other and the water alters our perception of the body in a fundamental way. The images are beautifully composed - nudes in the classic aesthetic. From the Publisher: "Over the last few years, the architecture of the human body has occupied a central position in Karl Lagerfeld's photographic work--just recently, his series Bodyparts was staged as an exhibition. With Waterdance and Bodywave, Lagerfeld now picks out courses of motion in the elements of water and air as a skillfully-used central theme. Here the photographic eye compares the different distortions of the body that result from submersion in either element. Lagerfeld's new work is presented in two large-format albums, whose dramaturgy leads the viewer to a new way of seeing nude photography in a playful way.
