Hamilton High: The DUFF
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper may not be the prettiest girl in her high school, but she has a loyal group of friends, biting wit, and a spot-on BS detector. She's also way too smart to fall for the charms of a man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush, who calls Bianca the Duff - the designated ugly fat friend - of her crew.
But things aren't so great at home and Bianca, desperate for a distraction, ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a secret enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly wrong. It turns out Wesley isn't such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she's falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.
With a wry and tell-it-like-it-is voice, New York Times Bestselling novel The DUFF is a witty and poignant story of a teenager struggling with the rules of high school attraction, along with the breaking down of her relationships with family and friends. It is a novel about what it means to be sexy, in a world where we feel we have to be perfect!
The DUFF movie starring Bella Thorne, Mae Whitman and Alison Janney will be released on DVD in Summer 2015.
Review
An interesting and enjoyable read (Kelly Pringle, Liberton High Teen Titles)
Kody Keplinger breathed some new life into the now horribly cliched idea of a love triangle by writing realistically flawed characters ... hilarious (South Wales Evening Post)
An earthy, realistic and compelling depiction of teenage relationships and self-image (Book Trust)
Written when the author herself was just 17, this debut novel has a bluntly honest edge ... compulsive reading, with a sassy heroine you'll find yourself rooting for against all the odds (We Love This Book)
Sharp, hot, thoughtful, and searingly honest, The Duff is one of the best young adult novels to come along in a decade. (Elizabeth Scott, US author of the The Unwritten Rule.)
Edgy and compelling. I couldn't put it down! (Simon Elkeles, New York Times best-selling author)
A well written, irreverent, and heartfelt debut. (Publishers Weekly)

'I always felt like the "ugly girl" in high school - my best friends are insanely gorgeous - so when I was introduced to the word during my senior year, I knew I was the Duff. The idea of writing a book with "Duff" in the title started as a joke, but when I realized that my friends felt like Duffs, too, I knew I had to write this story.'
The DUFF is a New York Times Bestseller and a major motion picture starring Bella Thorne, Mae Whitman and Alison Janney.
